Baurat Mast Scholarship

The Baurat Mast Scholarship was established in 1962 by Mrs. Elise Gesine, known as Gertrud Mast, née Siems, the widow of Carl-Alfred Mast, a former graduate of the Technical University of Stuttgart.

Her will states: “These grants to students are intended to preserve the memory of my husband, City Planning Officer Carl-Alfred Mast, and myself, and are established in recognition of the fact that my husband successfully studied at the Technical University of Stuttgart.”

“I direct that the […] assets […] be used to grant an annual study grant to deserving and needy students of civil engineering, architecture, and urban planning at the Stuttgart University of Technology.” And “Recipients who have already received a grant may continue to be considered in future semesters.”

Conditions

Twenty scholarships in the amount of €300 per month are awarded annually for one year.

The University of Stuttgart is the legal successor to the Technical University of Stuttgart. The following currently offered degree programs can be derived from the degree programs mentioned at that time.

  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Urban Planning
  • Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Planning
  • Master of Science in Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design (IUSD)
  • Master of Science in Integrative Technologies and Architectural Design (ITECH)
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Technology and Real Estate Management
  • Master of Science in Real Estate Technology and Real Estate Management

Applicants for the bachelor's program must be enrolled in at least their first and no later than their fourth semester; applicants for master's programs must be enrolled in their first or second semester.

Proof of financial need, as specified in the will, must be provided by submitting a current notification of benefits under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG).

In addition, points are awarded for the following criteria in the selection of scholarship recipients:

  • Grade point average (max. 10 points for an average between 1 and 1.1, down to 1 point for a grade of 2),
  • Additional academic achievements (0–3 points),
  • Additional non-academic achievements (0–3 points),
  • Commitment/willingness to take on responsibility (0–10 points), and for
  • Social/family/personal circumstances or disabilities (0–10 points).
